My name is Ann Marie Kennedy. I’m an artist who teaches workshops in hand papermaking.  I also teach drawing and printmaking for community college students in Raleigh, NC.
In our everyday lives, how do we interact with the natural world?  We live busy lives and our attention is demanded and pulled in so many directions.  Giving your attention to the world, noticing little things in the environment and in your daily travels, can provide a respite from the busyness and connect us with the cycles, wonder and beauty of the landscape and nature’s ever-changing bounty.
As an artist, I’ve been always been drawn to the natural world for inspiration.  Foraging, collecting, observing, and touching/handling materials provide the means for my creative process.  Papermaking is one way to contain remnants of these types of actions. Through the papermaking process I can embed plants, make plant fiber into paper, create color with natural dyes and mineral pigments, and use plants as texture or structure.
This blog is an introduction to the workshops I teach and my approach to papermaking and the creative process.  For images of my artwork in a portfolio format see annmariekennedydotnet.Ann Marie Kennedy’s Portfolio Website
